Clinch River Chapter of Trout Unlimited will host its Kids Fish Free Day on June 11.

Free Fishing Day is Saturday, June 11.

Anyone, resident or non-resident, of any age can fish free without a license in Tennessee’s public waters, agency owned and operated lakes, and parks.

Andersonville

Clinch River Chapter of Trout Unlimited will host its Kids Fish Free Day on Saturday, June 11, from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m. at Miller Island Boat Access on River Road in Andersonville.

It’s open to all youth up to 16 years old. To register for this event go to www.crctu.org.  The registration form is on the bottom of the home page. About the need to register, the news release stated, "This information is very important to us. We will need to know about the equipment needed and how much food to plan for."

The event is limited to 50 youth. Clinch Chapter of Trout Unlimited will be cooking hot dogs. Water will be on hand, but if you have something special you like to drink, bring what you will need.  Activities will include casting instruction, fly tying, boat rides and wade fishing in the river.

Kids Fish Free Day coincides with the statewide Tennessee Free fishing Day. Partners in the event are the Tennessee Valley Authority and Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency.

Obed

Also on June 11, Obed Wild and Scenic River near Wartburg is encouraging school-age children to begin the summer season by learning to fish with a park ranger at Nemo Picnic Area at 10 a.m.

A park ranger will introduce school-age children to the fundamentals of fishing, help identify some of the native fish of the area and discuss why a wild and scenic river is so important. At the end of the program, youth will receive a fishing pole, tackle and the official Junior Ranger Angler Badge.

Registration for this program is required. Call (423) 346-6294 to make your registration for this free ranger-led program, and for more information.

This program is made possible by the generous support of the National Park Foundation.
