Kids get free school supplies in Groton

Aug. 26—Children in grades kindergarten through 10th grade received free backpacks, school supplies and haircuts Thursday at the Back To School event hosted by Groton City Police, the Groton City Police union, St. John's Christian Church and Danielle's Barber Shop on the Thames.

Monetary donations from local businesses and Groton Youth Services were used to purchase school supplies. School supplies were also donated by individuals at the police station and Staples donated boxes filled with 19 school supply items, such as pens, pencils, erasers and glue.
