Kids injured in Brovary will be sent abroad: their condition and how to help them

Two families who suffered in the helicopter crash in Brovary are preparing to be sent to Austria.

This was reported by the city mayor Ihor Sapozhko.

Yana Sheyko, the godmother of 5-year-old Anya who was injured in the tragedy, confirmed this to Ukrainska Pravda.Zhyttia.

The girl went to kindergarten with her father Serhii on the morning of 18 January, but did not join the group. According to Yana Sheyko, they heard the sound of a helicopter, tried to hide, but did not have enough time and were affected by a blast wave.

"Many people heard that sound; something was buzzing. They thought it was a drone, and then they saw the helicopter going down," says Yana.

The girl's mother ran to the scene of the tragedy a few minutes later; the family lived nearby, so the girl and her father were sent to the Brovary hospital, then to the Kyiv Burn Centre, and from there, they were transported to Lviv.

"The girl had a hard time on the road. She is conscious, but in a stably difficult condition. The father's condition is a little better, but he is in a depressed state of mind. Mom and the eldest son are currently with them," says Yana.

The husband and child suffered burns, and the girl needs an operation. Anya is currently being prepared for transfer to a foreign clinic.

Serhii is a private entrepreneur, and his wife is an English teacher at a college. The family is currently in need of financial assistance.

Little Alisa Oksyuta, who was also caught in the blast wave in Brovary on the way to kindergarten with her mother Nadia, is also preparing to be sent abroad.

"Thank God, they are alive, but their condition is extremely difficult. Both are in intensive care in Kyiv. In the Burn Centre. Nadia covered Alisa with herself, like a real MOTHER," wrote Alisa’s godmother on the day of the tragedy.

Alisa attended karate classes. Her coach, Serhii Openko, calls on fellow citizens to help the family of his student.

"The little one did not come to training, we are all praying and holding our fingers crossed.

After the occupation [part of Kyiv Oblast was occupied by Russians in March and April 2022 – ed.], when Alisa came to the first training session, and I gave them a task: ‘Children, sit down and stretch into a butterfly [position - ed.],’ she came up and quietly said in my ear: ‘Coach, can you say "butterfly" instead of "butterfly" [a play of words involving Russian word ‘babochka’ and Ukrainian ‘metelyk’, which can both mean a butterfly and a bowtie - ed.], because I will not sit in a bow tie.’" My sweet girl. Sasha Breus is also in intensive care at the Kyiv Burn Center. 30% of her body is burned due to a fire in a kindergarten in Brovary.

"She and her mother were just in the dressing room when the helicopter fell on them. Mother was also injured, her hands were badly burned," writes Victoria Syumar, a journalist and public activist.

Sasha attended classes in a group for special children. She has severe burns on her hands, head and face. A series of operations is required, in particular, a plastic surgery.

As the mayor of Brovary reported, Sasha, her mother Olena Breus and Anna Yushchenko are preparing to leave the Kyiv Burn Centre.

Iryna Bondarchuk, along with her daughter Vladyslava and Lyudmila Motas the kindergarten's accountant, remain in the Kyiv Burn Centre until the final decision of the doctors. They are also ready to be accepted abroad after the final decision of the medical personnel.

Earlier, the Ministry of Health reported that they were preparing 6 patients, injured in the helicopter crash in Brovary, to be sent abroad.

On the morning of 18 January, a helicopter crashed near a kindergarten in Brovary in Kyiv Oblast, causing a fire. It killed 14 people, including the top leadership of the Ukrainian Ministry of Internal Affairs.
