Kids Quarter-Miler: Annual Kiwanis Event returns to Maple City Park in 2022

HORNELL – Over 100 of Section V’s future track stars showed up to Maple City Park on Saturday morning to compete in the annual Hornell Kiwanis Club Kids’ Quarter-Miler.

The event returned in full force on Saturday after a two-year hiatus due to the COVID-19 pandemic as kids ages 2-12 raced around the track in Hornell winning ribbons, securing trophies and also picking up a free hamburger to Burger King in the process.

Each age was given its own individual bracket, allowing each kid a chance to sprint around the track. The girls age group would go first, followed quickly by the boys. Races started at just over 100 meters for the two-year olds and gradually worked towards a full quarter-mile lap for the older athletes.

Girls winners included: Lilith Skillings, Addie Eason, Daelyn Helsey, Elyanna Oliviero, Nessa Matthews, Isabella Ramirez, Erika Cone, Kara Mahany, Brinna Wilkinson and Gracen Mahany.

Boys winners included: Landon Miles, Calum Clancy, Levi Vosburg, Charles Flint, Bryce Slaght, Jackson Henby, Marcus Oliviero, Stephen White, Easton Towlin, Brayden Mullen and Remington Stauring.
