Is your kids’ school closed Friday for the Texas Rangers’ championship parade?

Many Tarrant County students will have the day off on Friday as the Texas Rangers host a parade to celebrate their World Series win.

The parade will begin about 12:15 p.m. Friday, with the route stretching two miles through Arlington’s Entertainment District. School officials in the Arlington area said traffic concerns, combined with the need for officers from partnering police departments to support the parade, forced them to cancel classes.

In the Arlington Independent School District, classes are canceled Friday, but all sporting events will be held as usual. District leaders are assembling a marching band made up of students from the district’s six traditional high schools to participate in the parade.

Classes are also canceled in the Mansfield Independent School District, but sporting events and other extracurricular events will go on as scheduled. Several Mansfield ISD campuses are in the Arlington city limits, and about 40% of the district’s students live in Arlington.

Classes will also be canceled Friday in the Kennedale Independent School District, officials said. One of the district’s campuses, R.F. Patterson Elementary School, is located in Arlington.

In the Fort Worth Independent School District, schools will be open as usual on Friday, district officials said. Officials are encouraging students and staff to wear Rangers gear to school.

This list will be updated.
