Kids of Steel: Chartiers Valley students surprise teacher with donation to GBS Foundation

Teacher Shelley Territ leads the Kids of Steel program each year.

As a thank you for her dedication, the parents have come together to raise more than $1,000 to donate to the GBS Foundation, which supports individuals and families affected by Guillain-Barre’ syndrome, as Territ was diagnosed with the syndrome in 2017.

Students surprised Territ with the donation Wednesday and wore buttons to celebrate the teacher.

“Shelley has been a committed Kids of Steel coordinator for many years and has changed the lives and attitudes of so many young people through her energy and positivity. It is wonderful to see the youth giving back and supporting her,” said Amy Scheuneman, director of youth programming with P3R.

The Kids of Steel Program will hold its final event May 6, when students take part in the Chick-fil-A Kids Marathon in downtown Pittsburgh during Marathon Weekend.
