The death toll from Russian airstrikes on the Ukrainian capital Kiev has risen further, with Mayor Vitali Klitschko announcing on Wednesday that four people had died so far. More than 30 people have been injured.

Klitschko said that he had been to see the destruction in a high-rise building that had been hit. An injured pregnant woman had been rescued from the building earlier.

According to the authorities, it was the third Russian missile assault on the capital this year. Klitschko called on people to seek safety in shelters.
