The co-CEO and co-creator of Kiki's Chicken Place has died after a week-long battle with COVID-19, according to a message on the restaurant's website. Summer Gonzalez died early Friday, the statement reads. She worked alongside her husband of 25 years, Santiago, in starting the Sacramento restaurant and opening different locations. "To even conjure those words in this announcement is incredibly heartbreaking as we understand what Summer's impact is on her family, community and loved ones," the statement on the website reads.
