The man of accused of killing beloved Green Oaks football player Minnion Jackson three years ago was convicted of the crime Thursday in Caddo District Court and will be sentenced in August.

Kolby Moore, 23, was convicted by a 10-woman, two-man jury in District Judge Katherine Dorroh’s court room after a 90-minute deliberation. Moore gunned down Jackson on I-220 near the North Market exit not long after the 17-year-old football star, who had a football scholarship in hand, left practice at Green Oaks and had dropped off some teammates.

His death on Aug. 26, 2020, was later mourned by a large contingent of the north Shreveport community, led by Cedric Glover, and the overpass near where he died was named after him.

According to a release from Caddo District Attorney James Stewart’s office, “Witnesses saw the car used in the shooting speed off to Bossier City and exit onto Benton Road. Police were able to obtain a license plate number from a camera and traced the vehicle to a rental agency, where an employee had a romantic relationship with Moore. Using OnStar, officers tracked the vehicle to the 8200 block of Pines Road, within walking distance of Moore’s grandfather. Officers contacted Moore there, and after securing a warrant to search his cell phone, which aided in tying Moore to the shooting on I-220.”

Moore will be sentenced Aug. 16 and he faces a mandatory sentence of life imprisonment at hard labor without the benefit of probation, parole or suspension of sentence.
