Sex and the City star Kim Cattrall has broken her silence after news emerged of an upcoming cameo in And Just Like That season 2.

Variety reported that Cattrall has already filmed her return as Samantha Jones, but it was believed that she didn't have contact with series creator Michael Patrick King or any of the cast, including scene partner Sarah Jessica Parker.

Cattrall reposted the publication's Instagram post about the news on her own Instagram page, adding the caption "Happy Pride" alongside some rainbow emojis.

Cattrall had declined to be involved in And Just Like That's first season and addressed her character's off-camera fate – Samantha had been sacked as Carrie's publicist, before relocating to London.

"[It] feels different than the Samantha that I played," she said of Sam and Carrie's fallout.

Showrunner King had previously appeared to clearly rule out Cattrall ever returning to the sequel series as Samantha.

"There was no thought that Kim would ever participate in And Just Like That. Because she's said what she had said," he said lat year.

"The only place I participate in magical thinking is in fiction. You take people at their word, and you're a smart producer – you don't back yourself into a corner.

"Magically thinking, it's great to have Samantha. [But] I have no realistic expectation of Kim Cattrall ever appearing again."

Cattrall will be seen on Netflix later this month starring alongside Miss Benny in Glamorous, a series set in the beauty industry.

And Just Like That, the sequel to Sex and the City, airs on Max in the US and Sky Comedy and NOW in the UK.
