Kim Fields, Tami Roman Team Up With All-Female, Black Producing Team for UrbanflixTV Series ‘Vicious’ (EXCLUSIVE)

The streaming service, UrbanflixTV, has tapped actor-director Kim Fields to executive produce and direct the new series “Vicious,” which hails from an all-female, Black producing team, Variety has learned exclusively.
A half-hour dramatic comedy, “Vicious” will follow a fashion designer, Chantel, whose success is overshadowed by her deep denial about the cycle of abuse she internally endures. With the assistance of her secret weapon, the publicist to her Vicious Empire, Chantel works to rise through the ranks, but her husband’s narcissistic behavior threatens to tear down the house she built.
The cast of “Vicious” will be announced closer to the series premiere.
Originally a short film digital series, “Vicious” was created by Jill E. Ramsey, CEO of Jilly Thunda Productions, and written by authors Amaleka McCall-Braithwaite and Tu-Shonda Whitaker. Ramsey will serve as showrunner and executive producer, alongside Fields, Tami Roman and Kimberly Ogletree, CEO of Karat Entertainment.
“Bringing these fierce and flawed characters to life against the backdrop of the provocative fashion industry is a gig of slaying oh so delicious to me as a director and an executive producer,” said Fields.
“I’m excited to be an executive producer on ‘Vicious’ and having the capability of offering opportunities to up and coming actors and actresses and doing so with an all-female team is surreal,” Roman said. “Being in business with UrbanflixTV is definitely a plus because we both stand behind creativity, diversity and inclusion.”
Roman rose to fame in 1993 on “The Real World: Los Angeles,” and then worked across television and film throughout the ’90s and 2000s. In the 2010s, she became a breakout star of VH1’s “Basketball Wives” franchise.
Fields, who starred in the classic sitcoms “Facts of Life” and “Living Single,” recently executive produced and starred in Lifetime’s “You Light Up My Christmas.” Her directorial work spans from BET’s “All the Queen’s Men” to Nickelodeon’s “Young Dylan” to TBS’ “Tyler Perry’s House of Payne.” In 2015, Fields joined Bravo’s “The Real Housewives of Atlanta,” and in 2016, she was a contestant on ABC’s “Dancing With the Stars.” She is starring in the new Netflix series “The Upshaws,” with Wanda Sykes and Mike Epps, which premieres May 12.
“Vicious” marks a partnership between UrbanflixTV, Karat Entertainment and Roman Ramsey Productions.
UrbanflixTV is a premium streaming service with television and film content specifically selected for an urban audience, created with Black creators and entertainers. The network is available on platforms includingAndroid, iOS, Mac, PC, Apple TV, Roku, Amazon Fire and Chromecast.
“Vicious” is currently in production and slated to premiere this September.
