Kim Kardashian's Fully Sheer People's Choice Dress Sent a Subtle Message

Despite the devastating fires raging near many of their California homes, the (almost) full Kardashian klan made an appearance at the People’s Choice Awards on Sunday evening.

Kim, Kourtney, Khloé Kardashian, and Kris and Kendall Jenner took the stage to accept the award for Favorite Reality TV Show on behalf of Keeping Up with the Kardashians, with Kim leading the charge in a fully sheer curve-hugging zebra-striped vintage Jean Paul Gaultier dress.

Like Kim’s now iconic KKW Body fragrance bottle, the dress mimics her shape, with stripes outlining her belly button and the gap between her legs.

The dress is an interesting choice considering her history with Jean Paul Gaultier, and, in particular, the fragrance she appears to be alluding to with it.

Jean Paul Gaultier seemingly shaded Kardashian West’s design in April when the brand posted an image of their 1993 Classique bottle, which also features the mold of a woman’s torso. “Keeping up with the fragrance’s news!” the house captioned its Instagram post.

Kim has addressed the similarities between her bottle and Gaultier’s, telling Cosmopolitan, “Sculptures were my inspiration, but I love that bottle. It’s iconic and celebrates the woman’s body, but my inspiration was a statue. I wanted [mine] to be really personal with my exact mold, but I’ve always loved the Gaultier bottles.”

So perhaps Kim's look is yet another attempt to wave a white flag in the brand's direction? Considering everything going on in the country (and world at large) right now, a friendly show of goodwill seems like the right move.
