After receiving backlash for initially naming her new shapewear label "Kimono", on August 26 Kim Kardashian-West shared a new name and official launch date for her debut collection of shapewear pieces. In a post on Instagram, Kim wrote, "After much thought and consideration, I’m excited to announce the launch of SKIMS Solutionwear™ coming September 10."

Kim also made a point to thank her fans for their feedback on the initial name saying, "My fans and followers are a huge inspiration to me – I’m always listening to their feedback and opinions, and am so grateful they shared their ideas for a new brand name." According to the post, the pieces will be available on SKIMS.COM in sizes XXS - 5XL. And as Kim says, "I love the idea that the pieces will be the closest thing to someone’s skin, skimming with amazingly soft and supportive fabrics which accentuate the best parts of our bodies."

In a new interview with The Wall Street Journal, Kim Kardashian addressed her decision to rename her shapewear line. As she explained, her original intentions for choosing the name Kimono were "innocent," and she had come up with the name before announcing the product.

Speaking to the WSJ in June, before the line was shared with the public, she detailed her support for the idea, explaining that it was meant to be a pun on her name. “I heard it, and it instantly clicked with me," she said. “And I think ono means ‘one.&apos The Kim part I thought was, like, clever. I’ve always been a little bit more minimal when it comes to branding and I just think that incorporates me, but also, like, one.”

Once the line was announced and the brand received social media backlash, those involved with the project began to reconsider its moniker. “You would think we would have obviously thought it through a little bit deeper,” Kim said. "I’m the first person to say, okay, of course, I can’t believe we didn’t think of this. I obviously had really innocent intentions. But, let’s listen. And I want to really listen. And I want to really take it all in.” She noted that she "loved Japan," and said, "My husband was in Japan when all of this was happening. It’s a place that we love and go to. I have such respect.”

Kim had originally announced she wasn&apost planning to change the name, but she reconsidered. "After we learned more, it was the right thing to do,” Jens Grede, an investor in the lingerie line and the cofounder of Frame denim, told the WSJ. "We had misunderstood the cultural meaning.”

A new name for the line hasn&apost yet been announced. Kim had asked for fan input on July 8, tweeting, "We haven’t renamed it, but do you guys like the name Solutionwear? Any other names you&aposre liking?"

Last week, Kim Kardashian-West announced her new shapewear line called "Kimono," but quickly received criticism from fans who said she was appropriating Japanese culture, sparking the #KimOhNo movement online.

Even the mayor of Kyoto chimed in, releasing a public letter to KKW, in which he said that the "kimono is a traditional ethnic dress” and that Japan itself is in the process of trademarking the name for its own cultural purposes.

Earlier today, KKW finally issued a public response via Twitter, saying, "I am always listening, learning and growing. I so appreciate the passion and varied perspectives that people bring to me. When I announced the name of my shapewear line, I did so with the best intentions in mind. My brands and products are built with inclusivity and diversity at their core, and after careful thought and consideration, I will be launching my Solutionwear brand under a new name. I will be in touch soon. Thank you for your understanding and support always.”

We&aposre curious to see what name she comes up with instead.

It would seem that the world is truly Kim Kardashian-West&aposs oyster. In a year that&aposs already included the launch of a sunglasses line, body foundation, and a possible fragrance with Kylie Jenner, the celeb who does it all has now announced the upcoming arrival of her own shapewear collection.

On Tuesday morning, June 25, Kim shared the news of Kimono, a shapewear line that she says took her 15 years to complete. "I would always cut up my shapewear to make my own styles, and there have also been so many times I couldn’t find a shapewear color that blended with my skin tone, so we needed a solution for all of this," she wrote on Instagram. For the line, which is "coming soon," Kim included pieces in sizes XXS to 4XL in nine different shades.

The collection seems to be one that Kim had secured a patent for in May 2018. As previously pointed out by Cosmopolitan U.K., many on social media had criticized her choice of name, writing, "first of all everyone needs to understanding that her calling it ‘kimono intimates’ is an example of cultural appropriation, given she is not one bit japanese nor oriental asian, and that’s why is insulting." Today&aposs announcement was met with similar criticism on social media.

Kim didn&apost share which pieces will be available for purchase and when, but she did unveil a solution short, which features one longer side to be worn under dresses or skirts. Followers, eyeing the pictures on Twitter, expressed confusion at how the short would be worn, but then called the idea "kind of genius."

Shapewear is generally used to provide the back and bust with support, but it&aposs not always needed. And as many on social media pointed out, Kim&aposs initial ad campaign appeared to lack a diverse group of body types and sizes. "Could have included a wider range of body shapes in the pics," one follower noted. Another agreed, writing, "All these woman are the same body type, would be nice if it was universal to woman of all sizes instead of just one body type." Ultimately, whether you feel the need to wear shapewear is up to you, and while the product does have a purpose, fashion should be about celebrating what makes you feel like your best, most stylish self.
