Kim and Kourtney Kardashian Are “Shocked and Furious” Over Alleged Origins of SoCal Wildfires

As the Woolsey Fire continues to rip through Southern California, destroying countless homes and devastating wildlife, the question on everyone’s mind is what caused the fire. The Kardashians have their thoughts on how the fire started and from their recent social media posts, it seems that they aren’t very happy about their discovery.

On Wednesday evening, Kim Kardashian West shared on Twitter that she was “shocked & furious to learn smoke from the #WoolseyFire started at former nuclear testing site, Santa Susana Field Lab, & is potentially radioactive.”

There is no confirmation yet on whether there is any truth to the 38-year-old reality star’s claims as the fire’s origin is still under investigation. However, according to NBC News, the Woolsey fire did begin near the field lab, which was the site of a previous nuclear meltdown.

Per NBC’s report, the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health was able to confirm on Tuesday that they have found “no discernible level of radiation in the tested area” since testing air samples.

Nonetheless, the beauty mogul is still advocating that the site be cleaned, and her older sister Kourtney Kardashian, who lives just 20 miles from the field lab, agrees with her. Both have called for their newly elected Governor of California, Gavin Newsome, to take action.

The 39-year-old mom of three tweeted, “Our family lives only 20 miles from a nuclear site, Santa Susana Field Lab, and we didn’t even know it – the #WoolseyFire started there, and smoke could be carrying radioactive chemicals.”

Both Kardashian sisters linked their tweets to a petition related to a 4-year-old girl who allegedly developed cancer from being exposed to contamination from the site.

Given that so many of their family members’ homes have been impacted by the wildfire and the oldest Kardashian sister’s close proximity to the former nuclear site, we understand their concern. Since the fire first broke out last Thursday, the Kardashian clan has been very vocal about supporting wildfire relief efforts and their local firefighters, as have a number of other celebrities.

According to ABC, Los Angeles County officials report as of Thursday, the Woolsey Fire is 57 percent contained, burned through almost 99,000 acres, and led to 3 deaths.
