Sep. 16—FREEMAN — With three finishers in the top-four Wednesday, Kimball/White Lake was the girls team to beat in the Flyer Invitational Wednesday at Valley View Golf Course.
KWL won the race with a team score of nine points, followed by second-place Hanson (31) and Elk Point-Jefferson (35). The Wildkats had second-place finisher Autumn Baker (21 minutes, 7.19 seconds), Christine Gaulke in third (21:43.87), and Lily Baker (21:44.29) in fourth place.
Freeman Academy/Marion's Jada Koerner, however, was the race winner, crossing the finish line in a time of 20:50.84. Hanson's Taziah Hawkins was fifth in a time of 21:54.01.
In the boys race, Canistota's Josiah Schroeder won the race in 17:14.91. Elk Point-Jefferson's Joe Cross was the second-place finisher with a time of 17:54.07, with Tavin Schroeder of Freeman Academy/Marion in third (18:11.82), Irene-Wakonda's Ethan Haich taking fourth (18:12.03) and Park Sinclair, of Kimball/White Lake, in fifth place (18:24.01).
Schroeder led the way for Freeman Academy/Marion, which edged Kimball/White Lake for the boys team title. FAM scored 25 points, while KWL had 28 points, and Elkton-Lake Benton was third with 30 points. Mitchell Christian was seventh with 88 points, paced by a top time from Silas Holdeman in 18th place (19:54.76).
