ADRIAN — Families with children approaching kindergarten age, visited Adrian High School last week and had a good time learning about the Adrian Public Schools and interacting with a variety of fine arts and athletic opportunities for their kids, school officials said.

A kindergarten expo, hosted Tuesday by the district's recreation and fine arts departments, was open to the community but was gauged especially for families with children ages 4-6.

The expo offered several fun, interactive stations for families to visit including face painting, make-and-take crafts, a photo booth, musical instruments, dance and drama, and athletics samplings. Concessions were also offered, and Adrian teachers and coaches provided instruction and information about the district. Current Adrian students were also on hand and ran some of the stations while providing one-on-one assistance with the younger children.

“The event was well attended and the district is appreciative of the staff members who helped make this event possible,” Adrian Public Schools Superintendent Nate Parker said.

The goal of the expo was to continue to offer a number of opportunities for students of all ages to participate in extracurricular activities, Parker said. It also provided an opportunity for prospective families and students to see what was available for a student’s education at Adrian, and it was a chance for the district to open its facilities to the public.

“We know that students' overall mental health and well-being are increased when they are active, involved in extracurricular activities, and interacting in positive ways with their peers and supportive adults,” Parker said. “It is our goal to partner with parents and the community to ensure that Adrian students of all ages have opportunities to be involved in the arts and athletics as well as the outstanding academic opportunities we provide.”
