King Charles’s first electric vehicle is set to fetch up to £70,000 when it is auctioned next month.

The 2018 Jaguar I-Pace became the Royal family’s first electric vehicle after the then Prince of Wales used his own money to lease it.

But this specific model has not been popular and sales have been so scarce that Jaguar has announced it will be discontinued after next year.

This I-Pace is also a rarity due to its personalised colour scheme. Although it left the factory in Eiger Grey, it was repainted, at the King’s request, in Loire Blue.

It is the only version of the EV ever finished in the colour, which is said to be the King’s personal favourite. The car is “fully loaded” and comes with some modifications, like the blue lights common on the family’s cars.

‘Silent but deadly’

Charles’s I-Pace is scheduled to go under the hammer on March 2, at the Ascot Racecourse in Ascot, England.

Historics Auctioneers who are listing the vehicle expect the EV to sell for between £55,000 and £70,000.

The Jaguar fast charger was installed at his official London residence, Clarence House and on many occasions the then Prince was photographed in the car, with one specific occasion on Sep 15 2018 arriving at the Royal Albert Hall, where there is a video of him on YouTube exiting out of the car with the number plate in full view as the car approaches,” reads the listing.

“He was heard to reply to a shouted question that the car was ‘silent but deadly’.

“We are informed that in its time with the Royal Household not only did Charles drive the car but also the Queen and other royals such as Meghan, the Duchess of Sussex, have been photographed being driven in the I-Pace.”
