King’s Fish House To Open 1-Day, Seafood Pop-Up In SF Valley

CALABASAS, CA — If you are craving seafood and steak — or even better, seafood and steak at a discount— circle Thursday on your calendar and head to King’s Fish House Calabasas.

The restaurant, akin to those throughout California complying with the in-house dining ban, is getting creative to keep business going during the coronavirus crisis. From 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. March 26, the eatery will open as a pop-up market — with social distancing in mind — at its locale at 4798 Commons Way.

Shoppers can pick up live, spiny lobsters ($26 for 1.25 pounds, compared to market price of $28 per pound), littleneck clams ($7 for 2 pounds), Manila clams ($12 for 2 pounds), Saltspring mussels (2 pounds for $8), $24 Alaskan halibut and 7-ounce filet mignon at two for $30 or four for $52, according to managers.

If customers prefer, their live lobsters or Dungeness crab can be cooked on the spot at King's Fish House and put on ice to take home.

Also available for purchase will be discounted wine, $3 ready-to-bake sourdough, such fresh produce as lettuce potatoes, lemons, limes, artichokes, strawberries and spinach, plus $25 batch cocktails — packaged to-go — including margaritas, Old-Fashioneds and Bristol Street. One "batch" equals eight cocktails (seven for Bristol Street), and the drinks will include how-to instructions from King's Fish Beverage Director Kevin Felker, a restaurant spokesperson said.

In keeping with state health advisories to thwart the spread of COVID-19, the pop-up only will allow eight to 10 individuals at a time inside to shop, and they must adhere to floor markers to maintain a 6-foot distance. Other patrons will wait outside, management said.

The pop-up venture for the chain began last week at a sister restaurant, Water Grill South Coast Plaza in Costa Mesa, but is a first for the Calabasas locale.

The King family food business dates to 1945 in Southern California, with its first King’s Fish House opening in 1983 on Pine Street in Long Beach. The company now operates 21 eateries in the Golden State, Arizona and Nevada.
