The King has been pictured for the first time since his prostate diagnosis was revealed as he returned from Scotland to Sandringham.

The 75-year-old monarch was spotted leaving Birkhall, his private home on the Balmoral estate in Aberdeenshire, in the back of an Audi.

The Queen, 76, was in the passenger seat, and the couple were accompanied by their protection officers.

The King was later seen leaving RAF Marham in Norfolk, headed to Sandringham, where he and his wife spent Christmas and the New Year.

Next week, he will undergo a “corrective procedure” in hospital after being diagnosed with a benign enlarged prostate on Wednesday.

On Thursday, the Queen said he was “fine” and “looking forward to getting back to work.

She is said to have delayed her own return from Scotland on Thursday to stay with her husband. It is not known whether she returned to Sandringham or headed home to Ray Mill House, in Wiltshire.
