'King Tide' Brings Coastal Flooding to South Carolina
A “king tide” caused flooding to coastal areas in South Carolina on Saturday, November 6.
A “king tide” refers to “exceptionally high tide,” the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration said. “Higher than normal tides typically occur during a new or full moon and when the Moon is at its perigee, or during specific seasons around the country.”
The National Weather Service issued a flood warning for the coastal South Carolina counties of Horry and Georgetown until 1 am local time on Sunday, with up to half a foot of flooding expected.
