Kingjaks on Biloxi Beach brings seafood flair to familiar barbecue menu

Butts, butts and more butts.

The sign still greets locals and visitors along Biloxi Beach, but the menu is new at the recently reopened Kingjaks.

Formerly known as Fat Bottom BBQ and Slap Ya Momma’s before that, Kingjaks is the product of a five-year manager who didn’t want to see her coworkers left without a job.

Ava Gazzo-King stepped in when Fat Bottom BBQ closed and worked quickly to open her own version of the restaurant.

The menu combines the familiar tastes of the barbecue on the water with seafood and tacos added for more variety.

The options swing from barbecue plates to shrimp tacos, from ribs to po-boy’s, from wings to shrimp tacos. All with the expanse of the Mississippi Sound in the background.

The drink menu features more than two dozen cocktails, plus margaritas and other frozen specialties. The Green Tea with Irish whiskey and peach schnapps is a good choice (or at least so I’ve heard).

Also a great starter is the tuna dip with tortilla chips. My first foray into the world of tuna dip came at The Blind Tiger Meat Market and Deli, and my follow up at Kingjacks went just as well.

Dotted across the menu are staffers’ favorite’s favorites. I went with Emma’s favorite entree, the Buffalo chicken sandwich.

Emma has great taste for Buffalo-tossed chicken tenders. The side of fries was somehow the best part. Cut steakhouse style, but cooked crispy thin, these were some of the best french fries I’ve had at a seafood-barbecue fusion restaurant.

Among the other favorites on the menu is a shrimp and crab-covered French roll that Angela loves. River’s favorite is a two-meat sandwich piled with onion strings, and Cousin BJ likes the surf and turf po-boy.

Kingjaks does what it aims to do and does it well. They provide a family-friendly environment with comfortable indoor seating and breezy outdoor dining.

The new menu expands the establishment’s reach and does so in a more personal way.

The giant pig still stands atop a car out front, but it is now painted with orange flames along the side. It’s still your favorite Biloxi Beach barbecue joint, just with added flair.

A variety of meats and sides, topped with a portion of fried shrimp, make the Kingjak platter a favorite at the new Kingjak Biloxi Beach on U.S. 90.
