The Kings will be missing two key players when they open a three-game homestand against the Portland Trail Blazers on Wednesday at Golden 1 Center, but they aren’t the only ones dealing with injuries.

The Kings (2-3) have ruled out De’Aaron Fox and Trey Lyles. Sacramento has lost three in a row with Fox sidelined by a right ankle sprain. Lyles has yet to appear in a game after suffering a left calf strain during the preseason.

Fox went through a 15-minute pregame workout under the watchful eyes of coaches, trainers and medical staff prior to Monday’s game against the Houston Rockets. He could return in the days to come with the Kings scheduled to play the Oklahoma City Thunder on Friday and the Cleveland Cavaliers on Monday.

The Blazers (3-4) announced Tuesday that rookie Scoot Henderson, Anfernee Simons, Ish Wainright and Robert Williams III have been ruled out for Wednesday’s game. Simons, who averaged 21.1 points per game last season, is expected to miss four to six weeks after undergoing surgery to repair a torn ulnar collateral ligament in his right thumb.

Henderson, the No. 3 pick in the 2023 NBA draft, averaged 8.8 points and 4.6 assists in his first five games before spraining his right ankle in last week’s win over the Detroit Pistons. The Blazers got more bad news in Sunday’s loss to the Memphis Grizzlies when Williams went down with a knee injury that will require surgery.

Twinning

Wednesday’s game will mark the first NBA matchup between Kings forward Keegan Murray and his twin brother, Kris Murray.

The Kings selected Keegan Murray out of Iowa with the No. 4 pick in the 2022 draft. He was named to the NBA All-Rookie First Team after breaking the rookie record for 3-point goals (206).

The Blazers took Kris Murray out of Iowa with the 23rd pick in the 2023 draft. He has appeared in two games, logging a total of 11 minutes, and is still searching for his first NBA basket.

Early adversity

Brown was not happy Monday when he hinted at potential lineup or rotation changes following back-to-back losses to the Rockets, but he said he was curious how his team would respond.

“The neat part about it is we’ve hit some adversity,” Brown said. “And if we expect to be who we expect to be, who I truly, 100% still believe in, then we’re going to find our way out of this. I don’t know how long it’s going to take, but this is great for us to experience and come back from the right way.”
