Kings guard Malik Monk was ruled out for Sunday’s game against the San Antonio Spurs after sustaining an injury during pregame warmups.

Sunday’s game at Golden 1 Center was already underway when the Kings announced Monk was out due to lower left leg soreness. A league source told The Sacramento Bee that Monk experienced mild soreness during warmups. The injury was not initially believed to be serious, but the team expected to know more Monday.

Monk, 25, is in his first season with the Kings after signing a two-year, $19.4 million free-agent deal with Sacramento last summer. Kings coach Mike Brown has touted Monk as a candidate for Sixth Man of the Year.

Monk is averaging 13.6 points, 2.6 rebounds and 3.9 assists per game. He is shooting 44.8% from the field and 36.1% from 3-point range.

Monk had 19 points, six rebounds and six assists on Wednesday as the Kings clinched their first playoff berth since 2006 with a 120-80 victory over the Portland Trail Blazers. He scored 20 points on 8-of-12 shooting in Friday’s victory over the Blazers.
