Kings Island concert series returns: Who's playing and how to buy tickets

Kings Island's concert series is returning this summer to celebrate the Mason amusement park's 50th anniversary. The park's Timberwolf Amphitheater will host five shows this summer and, for the first time ever, concert goers will not need to purchase admission to the park to gain entry to the shows.

Tickets are on sale now at visitkingsisland.com/events/concert-series. Concert goers will also get free parking after 5 p.m. included with their ticket purchase. VIP packages are also available, including benefits like a VIP Lounge and stage viewing access.

Admission to Kings Island Amusement Park is not required to attend any of the shows. Concert tickets do not include access to the park.

The lineup for this summer will include concerts by The Avett Brothers, Berlin and Flock of Seagulls, 3 Doors Down with special guest Candlebox, Skillet with special guest Jordan St. Cyr and Five for Fighting with special guest The Verve Pipe.

The Avett Brothers

Brothers Scott and Seth Avett formed The Avett Brothers, along with Bob Crawford and Joe Kwon, in the early 2000s. Mike Marsh, Tania Elizabeth and Bonnie Avett-Rini are also touring members.

The Grammy-nominated folk rock band broke into the mainstream in 2009 with their major label debut album, "​I and Love and You​," which peaked at No. 16 on the ​Billboard​ 200. They have released 10 studio albums in total and are known for hits like, "I and Love and You," "I Wish I Was" and "Ain't No Man."

Berlin & A Flock Of Seagulls

Berlin, an American new wave band that grew out of Los Angeles in the late '70s, grew in popularity with songs like, "Metro," "No More Words" and "Take My Breath Away," which was featured in "Top Gun."

The band will perform with A Flock of Seagulls, a British new wave band known for their hits, "I Ran (So Far Away)," "Space Age Love Song" and "The More You Live, the More You Love."

Performing on Saturday, July 9. Gates open at 6 p.m., show starts at 7 p.m.

3 Doors Down

Hailing from Escatawpa, Mississippi, 3 Doors Down rose to fame with their debut single, "Kryptonite," which peaked at No. 3 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart upon its release in 2000. The rock band went on to release hits like, "Here Without You," "When I'm Gone" and more.

Performing with special guest Candlebox on Friday, July 22. Gates open at 6 p.m., show starts at 7 p.m.

Skillet

Memphis-bred Christian rock band Skillet consists of husband and wife John and Korey Cooper, drummer Jen Ledger and guitarist Seth Morrison. Since forming in 1996, the band has released 11 albums and been nominated for two Grammy Awards. They're best known for hits like, "Monster," "Feel Invincible" and "Hero."

Performing with special guest Jordan St. Cyr on Saturday, July 23. Gates open at 6 p.m., show starts at 7 p.m.

Five for Fighting

Born Vladimir John Ondrasik III, singer-songwriter Five for Fighting first made it big in 2001 with the song, "Superman (It's Not Easy)," which peaked at No. 14 on the Billboard Hot 100. He followed up the track with hits like "100 Years" and "The Riddle."

This summer, Five for Fighting will hit the road for a 16-city string of shows, his first tour in five years.

Performing with special guest The Verve Pipe on Saturday, August 20. Gates open at 6 p.m., show starts at 7 p.m.
