(FOX40.COM) — Domantas Sabonis continues to put up video game numbers, and while the stats may not be good enough for a place in the 2024 NBA All-Star game, it may be good enough to break an NBA record set during the 2010-2011 NBA season.

Sabonis, who leads the NBA in double-doubles with 50, has posted a double-double in 37 straight games. So far this season, the next closest streak to Sabonis’ is six games.

A double-double is defined by the NBA as the moment a player reaches double figures (10 or more) in two of the five main statistical categories: points, rebounds, assists, steals, and blocks. When a player reaches double figures in three or more categories, it is called a “triple-double.” If they achieve the feat in four categories? Quadruple-double.

During the 2010-2011 NBA season, Kevin Love, who played for the Minnesota Timberwolves, posted a double-double stat line for 53 straight games, the longest streak since the NBA/ABA merger in 1976.

With 28 games remaining in the NBA season following the All-Star break, Sabonis has more than enough chances to catch Love’s record. The 6-foot-10 All-NBA forward from Lithuania is currently averaging 20 points, 13 rebounds, and 8 assists a game while shooting better than 60% from the field (62%).

If he stays true to his averages, Sabonis should accomplish the record on March 25 at home against the Philadelphia 76ers, a team currently without its superstar center, Joel Embiid.

Sacramento has never hosted the NBA All-Star Game. What is holding the city back?

The NBA’s All-Star festivities began on Friday, and although there has been a notable lack of Sacramento Kings representation, the fans of the Beam Team will have plenty to look forward to when the NBA season resumes, including Sabonis’ pursuit of NBA history.

The Kings, currently 8th in the Western Conference, return to NBA action on Thursday at the Golden 1 Center against the San Antonio Spurs, the last-place team in the Western Conference.
