Taron Egerton has lined up an exciting new role in an Apple TV+ true crime drama.

The Kingsman and Rocketman actor will lead In With the Devil, a six-part series written and produced by Mystic River author Dennis Lehane.

Based on James Keene's astonishing true crime memoir In With the Devil: A Fallen Hero, a Serial Killer, and a Dangerous Bargain for Redemption, the series follows a young prisoner who is approached by his prosecutor and offered the opportunity to walk free – on the condition that he coaxes a confession from a fellow inmate, suspected serial killer Larry Hall.

Egerton will play Keene in the series, while Deadline reports that Songbird actor Paul Walter Hauser is in talks to portray Hall.

Both Keene and Egerton will serve as executive producers on the show along with Michaël R Roskam, who will also direct.

Apple TV+ has teased the series "subverts the crime genre" and will demonstrate "that truth is in fact stranger than fiction" (via TV Line).

The announcement follows Apple TV+'s previous ventures into the crime genre with Defending Jacob and Truth Be Told.

Egerton's forthcoming Tetris movie was also picked up by the streaming service in November.

The actor previously took aim at his Robin Hood movie, which was torn apart by critics on its release in 2018.

He's also opened up about being "baffled" by rumours he would play a new version of Wolverine.
