Weather advisory for Kinston on Sunday

The Kinston area remains under a winter weather advisory as of 8:30 a.m. Sunday.

The advisory is set to last until at least noon today, according to the National Weather Service.

Freezing rain is expected to switch to rain showers after 9 a.m., with a high today in the low 50s, according to the National Weather Service. Winds are forecasted to be between 13-17 mph, with gusts as high as 26 mph.

There's a 100% chance of precipitation, with 1-2 inches of rain possible.

Sunday night the rain will continue through at least 9 p.m., according to the National Weather Service, before changing to mostly cloudy. Temperatures will reach a low of around 35 with winds between 11-20 mph and gusts up to 30 mph.

Precipitation amounts overnight are forecasted for a tenth to a quarter of an inch.

Monday will bring sunnier weather with a high near 49, according to the National Weather Service. Martin Luther King Jr. Day will still be breezy, though, with winds predicted ay 17-20 mph and gusts up to 30 mph. Temperatures will again drop Monday night to around 28 degrees. Winds will reduce to 8-11 mph with gusts up to 18 mph.
