Representative Adam Kinzinger (R., Ill.) claims Republican lawmakers will demand a vote to impeach President Biden “every week” if the GOP wins control of the House in the upcoming midterm elections.

“Back before we had all the crazies here — just some crazies — you know, every vote we took, we had to somehow defund ObamaCare. … You’ll remember, right when we took over it was we need to do the omnibus bill, but we’re not going to vote for it because it doesn’t defund ObamaCare,” Kinzinger said on an episode of CNN’s The Axe Files with David Axelrod, which was released Monday.

He went on to say that will “look like child’s play in terms of what” Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene (R., Ga.) demands of House GOP Leader Kevin McCarthy if Republicans control the House.

“They’re going to demand an impeachment vote on President Biden every week,” Kinzinger said.

Republican lawmakers have made long shot attempts to impeach President Biden over his failure to address the immigration crisis on the U.S.-Mexico border and his botched withdrawal of U.S. troops from Afghanistan, among other issues.

Kinzinger was one of ten House Republicans who voted to impeach former president Donald Trump for inciting the January 6 Capitol riot. Kinzinger, one of two Republicans serving on the January 6 select committee investigating the Capitol riot, announced in October that he would not seek reelection.

He previously said his “biggest regret” as a congressman was voting against the first impeachment of Donald Trump over the former president’s dealings with Ukraine.

In the podcast episode that was released Monday, Kinzinger suggested Republicans could also try to “make abortion illegal in all circumstances on this omnibus bill” if they controlled the House.

He went on to say that he would “absolutely love to see” McCarthy not become House Speaker and that “it’s quite possible” that McCarthy doesn’t assume the role because he is not right-leaning enough.

“I think it’ll be a very difficult majority for him to govern unless he just chooses to go absolutely crazy with them. In which case you may see the rise of the silent, non-existent moderate Republican that may still exist out there, but I don’t know,” he said.

Kinzinger suggested if Republicans only have a slight majority in the House they may deny McCarthy the speakership “because they weren’t, let’s say, Representative Jim Jordan (R.,Ohio), where they have this idea that Donald Trump can sit as Speaker.”

“Any of them can do that,” he added. “And I know these Freedom Caucus members fairly well, and I know that they have no problem turning their back on [McCarthy] and they will.”

There are currently 212 Republicans in the House, meaning the GOP would need to reelect all of its current members and pick up just five seats to win control of the chamber. RealClearPolitics has labeled 219 seats as safe, likely, or leaning Republican. Another 34 seats have been designated “toss-ups.”
