Kirby Smart is college football's best coach.

No, not of all time. That distinction remains with Nick Saban.

But for college football's present and the foreseeable future, Smart tops the chart. Once again, he's built and developed the nation's best team. Like the Alabama teams on which Saban forged his dynasty, Georgia is an all-around force, solid in every phase of the game. Georgia is favored to repeat as national champions.

If you're drafting a coach from the SEC to build and lead your program, Smart should be first off the board.

But, would Saban go No. 2?

On this edition of "SEC Football Unfiltered," a podcast from the USA TODAY Network, hosts Blake Toppmeyer and John Adams debate that topic.

Brian Kelly at least deserves consideration for No. 2 off the board for the way he fast-tracked LSU's rebuild, including a 32-31 overtime upset of Alabama on Saturday.

However, Saban's dynasty has been declared dead before and rose from the grave. Multiple times in his Alabama tenure, Saban adapted and accelerated after it looked as if he was falling a half-step behind. Don't count out the GOAT.

If Saban coaches for another five years, we like his chances to produce another national championship. Of course, Smart's Bulldogs might capture at least two during that stretch, and expect Kelly's Tigers to consistently be in the mix, too.
