Kirstie Alley has said she's been "blackballed" by Hollywood after expressing support for Donald Trump last year.

The Cheers actor said she felt like she was "in The Twilight Zone" as a result.

She opened up on Fox News show Tucker Carlson Today as she told the host: "People go, ‘You’re so brave.’ I go, ‘No, I think I’m stupid’. Because honestly, it is a real situation. And it is a real blackballing situation. It’s so strange to me because artists are free-thinkers, for the most part."

“You can be cooking meth and sleeping with hookers, as long as apparently you didn’t vote for Trump. I feel like I’m in The Twilight Zone a bit, with the whole concept of it,” she added.

Alley went on to say that other celebrities had unfollowed her after she supported Trump.

“I’m going, ‘I’m the same person. I’m the girl who voted for Obama twice… You liked me when I voted for Obama and now you’re this?’ It’s made me have to rethink, weirdly, my whole friendships," she went on.

Ahead of the 2020 US election, which was ultimately won by Democrat Joe Biden, Alley said she would be voting for then-president Trump.

In a message to Twitter, she wrote: "I’m voting for @realDonaldTrump because he’s NOT a politician," the actress tweeted, ahead of the Nov. 3 election. "I voted for him 4 years ago for this reason and shall vote for him again for this reason.

"He gets things done quickly and he will turn the economy around quickly. There you have it folks there you have it."

She was promptly criticised by several high profile figures, including director Judd Apatow and actor Patricia Arquette.
