Kites Over Lake Michigan, free car show top things to do in Manitowoc and Two Rivers this week

MANITOWOC - Labor Day weekend brings the return of Kites Over Lake Michigan in Two Rivers.

Here's a look at that event, and more things to do in Manitowoc and Two Rivers this week.

1. Attend Kites Over Lake Michigan

Get outside and head to the 17th annual Kites Over Lake Michigan!

The event will be at Two Rivers High School again this year. The school is at 4519 Lincoln Ave., Two Rivers.

Happening over two days, Saturday and Sunday, the event is one of the largest kite festivals in the Midwest. The event runs 11 a.m.-4 p.m. both days, with free kite-making for kids at 9 a.m. Sunday only.

The event features stunt teams, aerial shows, drinks and food.

Kites Over Lake Michigan also serves as the biggest fundraiser of the year for local non-profits and community projects.

2. Check out classic and modern cars and motorcycles at HFM show

Spend an afternoon at the HFM Harbor Town Campus, 1650 S. 41st St., Manitowoc, perusing both classic and modern cars.

Taking place from 3 to 7 p.m. Saturday, this free car show features food, music, awards, family fun and more.

3. Find fresh produce and more at Manitowoc Farmers' Market

The Manitowoc Farmers' Market is still in season, and now that it’s September, you can expect to see a variety of fresh seasonal produce, bakery, canned items, and crafts.

The market is in the parking lot at 720 Quay St. and continues 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. every Saturday through Oct. 29. More information is at https://www.manitowoc.org/298/Farmers-Market.

4. Take in live music downtown for Labor Day weekend

Labor Day weekend means it’s time to sit back, relax and sip on something refreshing while jamming out to good music!

There are a variety of establishments to catch all the live music this weekend, including Star Six Nine at The Wharf at 6:30 p.m. Friday, Eight Second Ride at the Fat Seagull at 6 p.m. Saturday, Austin Skalecki at PetSkull Brewing Company at 3 p.m. Sunday and Road Trip at The Wharf at 2:30 p.m. Monday for its Labor Day Bash.

The Wharf is at 606 Quay St., the Fat Seagull is at 807 Quay St., and PetSkull Brewing Company is at 1015 Buffalo St.

5. Shop local, visit the library and enter to win prizes

Manitowoc Public Library’s Libraries Build Strong Communities campaign kicks off Sept. 1 and runs all month.

The annual campaign celebrates and encourages both shopping local and visiting the library, which is at 707 Quay St.

Throughout the month, get raffle tickets for the chance to win $100 in Chamber Bucks by presenting a receipt from a Manitowoc County business dated in September, checking out library items, or getting or renewing your library card.
