Work of late Kittery Point artist Tim Beavis featured at Buoy Gallery

KITTERY - Kittery's Buoy Gallery will feature "The Firework Series" the late, acclaimed Kittery Point painter Tim Beavis, who died two years ago from cancer.

The opening reception for the exhibit will be Friday, Nov. 5 from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Buoy Gallery at 2 Government St., in Kittery

Collectors and fans of the well-loved artist will have the opportunity to see one of Beavis’ most vibrant and large-scale series. According to Buoy founder Al Mead, “Tim was interested in the velocity of pyrotechnics as a force in animated abstraction. These paintings explode with luscious fields of color and incorporate newspaper collage. Power and playfulness emanate in this exhibition.” Mead says Beavis chose the circle because of the beauty and simplicity of its shape and he loved to discover how circles could be used in an expanded way.

Marjan Frank, sister-in-law to Tim Beavis, curated the original fireworks show that was presented in NYC 20 years ago. She describes Beavis as a “modernist who had a deep appreciation for the natural world.” Frank calls the Fireworks Series energetic, bold, and dramatic; she says Beavis spent nine months completing the series, which has never been seen on the Seacoast.

All are welcome to the free reception Friday night. The exhibit runs through Dec. 3 at Buoy.
