Scholarship winners were recognized, as were veterans and educators, during a recent Alliance Kiwanis Club meeting at Alliance YWCA.

Graduating students who previously received $1,000 scholarships were Patrick Burse, Jane Cook and Jane Miller of Alliance High School, and Mallory Bennett, Walter Bungard and Logan Waite of Marlington High School.

Burse, Alliance High School class president, will attend Baldwin-Wallace University's Conservatory of Music and he will also be going out for the swim team. Bennett, who was Character Counts president at Marlington and was involved in several other clubs, will attend Ohio University and study math. Waite will attend Kent State University, where he will major in Conservation Biology and minor in environmental studies. Bungard, Marlington validictorian this year, plans to study chemical engineering at the University of Akron.

In addition to honoring the students during the meeting just days before Memorial Day, Kiwanis veterans were recognized and asked to share details of their service. Kiwanians who were educators also were recognized and asked to give advice to the students.
