Kiwanis pancake breakfast, unofficial kick off to Apple Festival, will be in person for first time since 2019

The Kiwanis Club of Hendersonville will hold its annual Pancake Breakfast from 7-10 a.m. on Friday, Sept. 2 at First Baptist Church of Hendersonville. This fundraising event serves as the "unofficial kick off’ to the North Carolina Apple Festival and returns to its traditional in-person format for the first time since 2019.

Tickets are available for $9 and each ticket includes pancakes, eggs, baked apples, bacon, coffee, milk and apple juice. Children under 6 are free. Tickets can be purchased at HendersonvilleKiwanis.org.

The Kiwanis Club has traditionally held a Pancake Breakfast Fundraiser on the Friday before Labor Day to kick off the annual NC Apple Festival in downtown Hendersonville, but in light of COVID-19 restrictions, the club decided to continue its commitment to kids and the community by offering a pre-packaged breakfast to go at no charge to the community in 2020 and served the farmers working the scaled-back festival a hot breakfast in 2021, according to a news release.

“We are thrilled to be returning to our traditional format at the church this year,” said Club President Tom Murrill. “This annual event brings hundreds of Henderson County residents and visitors together to benefit the kids in our community by supporting the Kiwanis Club and our mission while enjoying a terrific hot breakfast prepared by local Kiwanians,” he added.

The Kiwanis Club expressed thanks to the individual and corporate sponsors that make the event a success year after year. Proceeds from the breakfast support the club’s initiatives in the community such as service projects, student scholarships, and grants given to organizations that serve Henderson County children and youth. Kiwanians touch the lives of local people every day by contributing in excess of 18,000 volunteer hours annually at more than forty Henderson County organizations and for club-sponsored projects, the release states.

For over 100 years, the Kiwanis Club of Hendersonville has been a force in supporting the children and youth of Henderson County through services for the needy, building future leaders through scholarships and by providing support to organizations that conduct programs promoting youth development.
