Klock: What the world needs now is kindness

We've all heard it before: the world needs more kindness. But the truth is, being kind takes desire, awareness, and initiative.

Sunday, November 13 is World Kindness Day — a day to promote the importance of being kind to each other, to yourself, and the world. Especially in the past few years, the world has become more divided than ever.Acts of kindness can make the world a happier place for everyone. They can boost feelings of confidence, being in control, happiness, and optimism. They may also encourage others to repeat the good deeds they've experienced themselves, contributing to a more positive community. In our world today, especially in Pueblo, more people have become rude and arrogant toward each other. Racism, homophobia, transphobia, and other forms of hate speech have become more apparent in our society.

By being kind, we take the risk of being had. It requires courage. Anyone can take advantage of generosity, and there are plenty of people who believe that others are only kind to them when they want something, or because they’re afraid. So it’s important to remember that being kind does not mean being a doormat: you still have to assert yourself and stand up for what’s right. On this World Kindness Day, learn that kindness is a fundamental part of human existence. It is what we need to survive in today's world. Technology, science, and art are good. But in the end, kindness is the spark we need to make the world a better place.
