Jürgen Klopp is "definitely a potential candidate" for the Bayern Munich coaching job, according to the Bundesliga champions' captain Manuel Neuer.

The Bild paper late Sunday quoted Neuer as saying at a fan club meeting that Klopp was a "renowned, very good, experienced, tactically skilful coach who commands great respect from all footballers and athletes.

"I believe that he is definitely a potential candidate who could also work for Bayern Munich at a later stage," Neuer said.

Klopp, 56, announced on Friday that he will end his term as Liverpool manager after almost nine years at the end of the season. The former Borussia Dortmund and Mainz coach also said he planned to take a break from football.

Klopp could be a candidate for many top clubs in the future, but also for national teams, most notably in his native Germany.

Julian Nagelsmann is the current Germany coach on a contract until after this year's Euros.

At Bayern, Thomas Tuchel has a deal until 2025 but the team is only second in the Bundesliga and has been eliminated early in the German Cup.

Neuer said it would depend on Klopp himself when and whether at all he wanted to become Bayern coach, or rather do something else.

"Whether he wants that is of course up to him. Or whether he says he wants to take a break first. Maybe he doesn't want to do the day-to-day business any more - I can also imagine him being national team coach one day," Neuer said.
