Knightdale, Durham Walmart stores evacuated after false bomb threats, police say

Walmart stores in Knightdale and Durham were evacuated after false bomb threats were made Sunday morning, police said.

Deputies and local police investigated a threat made against the Walmart at 7106 Knightdale Boulevard, according to Wake County Sheriff’s Office. The building was evacuated and no injuries have been reported.

The threat was reported at 8:16 a.m., Raleigh-Wake dispatch said.

The office said its deputies had cleared the scene by about 11:10 a.m., after a sweep of the store found no threats.

Jonas Silver, a spokesman for Knightdale, said that as of 11:35 a.m., the scene had been cleared and the store had reopened.

He added there was no threat to residents at this time.

The Walmart on Glenn School Road was also evacuated after a threat against the store was placed at 8:11 a.m., Durham police said.

The call was later determined to be a “false threat,” Durham Police Department Lt. J. Kenyon said.

No threats were found when officers searched the building, and it was cleared to resume normal operations at 10:50 a.m., he said.

Kenyon said the same suspect called threats against the stores in Knightdale and Durham, as well as stores in the Charlotte-Mecklenburg area.

The suspect has not yet been identified, and the investigation is ongoing, he said.
