Murder mystery threequel Knives Out has received an exciting update involving Rian Johnson.

The director and writer helmed 2019's Knives Out and 2022's Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery, both of which were led by Daniel Craig as detective and lead character Benoit Blanc.

And, according to Deadline, the third instalment into the Knives Out universe is being "geared up" by the production company than Johnson co-leads with Ram Bergman, T-Street.

The publication has reported that T-Street is "gearing up to make the third instalment of the Benoit Blanc franchise for Netflix later this year."

The film, which has yet to be titled, will again be written and directed by Johnson, and Craig will return in the lead role of the detective trying to figure out whatever dastardly scheme is concocted this time around.

Johnson previously confirmed that he had ideas for a third movie following the success of the second.

"I don't have to replicate the last movie at all," he said. "The goal is to strike out in a completely new direction tonally and thematically."

The second film starred Guardians of the Galaxy's Dave Bautista, Edward Norton, Kathryn Hahn, Ethan Hawke and Janelle Monáe.

No casting has yet been announced for Knives Out 3, apart from Blanc.

Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery is available to stream on Netflix. Knives Out is available now on 4K Ultra-HD, Blu-ray and DVD, as well as on Prime Video, iTunes and other digital platforms.
