What you need to know about the 33rd annual Southern Heritage Classic

The 33rd Annual Southern Heritage Classic is happening in Memphis this weekend.

The annual football game begins at 6 p.m. Saturday at Liberty Stadium and could be the final matchup between Jackson State and Tennessee State.

Tailgate tickets to the big game sold out back in May, according to an event organizer.

Multiple events are planned to celebrate the weekend, including a Classic College & Career Fair, Classic Funk Fest, the Penny Hardaway Memphis District Golf Classic, and of course, the Classic Tailgate.

Tailgating officially begins Saturday at 8 a.m. in the parking lots and Tiger Lane.

Fans and tailgaters attending the Classic should know that local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies, along with stadium security and local emergency management, will have a strong presence throughout and around Liberty Park over the weekend.

It is important that if fans and event-goers see something that “just doesn’t seem right,” they should say something to law enforcement.

All attendees will go through metal detection when entering the stadium, and a clear bag policy will be enforced.

Umbrellas, oversized seat cushions, coolers, backpacks, weapons, and a list of other items are prohibited.
