Main Memorial Day program in Aberdeen moved to Schriver's at 10:15 a.m.

A variety of Memorial Day programs are planned Monday along with a veteran's walk on Saturday and a theatrical presentation of "Home, Sweet, Home" in Herreid.

Here's what you need to know.

Aberdeen: The American Legion Sidney L. Smith Post No. 24 Memorial Day program is 10:15 a.m. at Schriver's Memorial Mortuary, 414 Fifth Ave. N.W. Short programs are also planned at Riverside Memorial (8 a.m.); St. Mary's Cemetery (8:45 a.m.) and Sacred Heart Cemetery (9:15 a.m.).

Veteran's run/walk: The 11th Annual 5K Run/Walk is Saturday at Wylie Park in Aberdeen. Registration opens at 7 a.m. Runners start at 8 a.m., with walkers after. Registration is $20. Registration forms can be found online at aberdeenlegion.org/registration.pdf.

Hymn Sing: Aberdeen Alliance Church at 1106 S. Roosevelt, is hosting a hymn sing on Sunday at 4 p.m. featuring songs of liberty and freedom. The song leader is Lyndell Martin with Mike Wood on piano and Bob Downie on trumpet. A meal will follow in the fellowship hall.

"Home, Sweet, Home": Produced by the Campbell County Arts Council, this two-hour show explores the mysteries of the heart during the Civil War. The show features virtuoso piano solos, beautiful songs and exciting drama. The show begins at 6 p.m. Monday at the Herreid School Gym. Proceeds support the Campbell County Arts Council. The show features Kathryn Farruggia, a renowned concert pianist, and Charles Farruggia, an actor, singer and author. More information can be found at chedsey.com/hsh. Columbia: Columbia Memorial Day events begin at noon with a potluck at the Columbia Legion Hall. The program begins at 1 p.m.

Herreid: Post 170 Sons of the American Legion will host graveside military honors at all Campbell County graveyards starting at 5:30 a.m. An observance program is at 10:30 a.m. at the Herreid School with a free-will lunch at 11:30 a.m. at the Herreid Community Center.

Mellette: The Memorial Day program is 10 a.m. at the Mellette Community Center with ceremony to follow at the Mellette Cemetery. Lunch will follow, served by the Mellette and Brentford American Legion Auxiliaries.

Rockham: The American Legion Post 57 in Rockham will have its Memorial Day program at the Zell Community Center at 9 a.m. Cemetery services honoring veterans will follow at the Zell Cemetery, then at the the Miranda Cemetery and Rockham Cemetery. Lunch will be served at the Rockham Community Center.

Stratford: The American Legion and Auxiliary Memorial Day program is at the Stratford Community Hall. Breakfast begins at 8 a.m. with the program to follow. World War I veteran George Burke will be highlighted.

  • East Rondell Cemetery, 10:30 am

  • Oakwood Cemetery, 11 a.m.

  • Bethany Lutheran Church, 11:30 a.m.

  • Scandinavia Lutheran Church, noon.

Telemarken: Memorial Day service at the Telemarken Lutheran Church is at 10:45 a.m. featuring the color guard from Larry Hartman Post No. 108 of Bradley. The program will begin after the color guard presentation. Lunch will be served following the service at the Wallace Community Center.
