The School Committee race will be decided in the general election on Nov. 7, as there are not enough candidates to garner a preliminary.

In the mayoral race, three candidates are vying for the seat: incumbent Mayor Paul Coogan, former mayor and Bristol County district attorney Sam Sutter, and second-time mayoral candidate Michael Vandal. 'Spider-verse' Miles Morales actor will honor a Black 'superhero' buried in Fall River

Lewis Latimer, a Black "superhero" scientist who is buried in Fall River, will soon be receiving a long-overdue honor.

Latimer was a 19th-century innovator who helped Thomas Edison invent the light bulb, and created several inventions, including an early form of air conditioning.

He's buried in Oak Grove Cemetery, and until now, has had no headstone.

Frank Bonafilia and Jon Cropper, of the nationally renowned Edison Awards and its Latimer Fellowship program, spearheaded a project to correct that, and a headstone will be installed on Sept. 23.

The guest list for the special ceremony includes another Black "superhero," Shameik Moore, who voices Miles Morales in the “Spider-Verse” animated films.
