In the court filing, the Virgin Islands wrote they believe Epstein “may have referred or attempted to refer” Musk to JPMorgan Chase as a potential client.

The government said its investigation revealed JPMorgan “knowingly, recklessly and unlawfully provided and pulled the levers through which Epstein’s recruiters and victims were paid."

Elon Musk calls subpoena 'idiotic,' Jeffrey Epstein discussed rumored Tesla role before jail death

Musk called the subpoena "idiotic" in a tweet Monday night, adding, "that cretin never advised me on anything whatsoever."

In 2018, when Elon Musk said he'd obtained funding to take Tesla private, New York Times' columnist James B. Stewart spoke with Epstein on background. The Times published the interview following his death in jail.

In the interview, he said he'd advised Tesla, but avoided specifics, noting that the company would deny his involvement. A spokesperson for Musk did just that.

“It is incorrect to say that Epstein ever advised Elon on anything,” Keely Sulprizio told the Times.

Stewart attempted to ask about the rumored email from Musk to Epstein regarding a list of candidates for a new chairman at Tesla, but Epstein said the email wasn't from Musk. Epstein never revealed who sent the purported email.

In summary, Stewart suggested that Epstein "embellished" his involvement with Tesla.

"It seemed clear Mr. Epstein had embellished his role in the Tesla situation to enhance his own importance and gain attention — something that now seems to have been a pattern."

Elon Musk said he met Jeffrey Epstein, declined trip to his island

Musk and Epstein had met before. After Vanity Fair reported that Musk introduced Epstein to Facebook's Mark Zuckerberg at a Palo Alto event, he declined the interaction.

"I don’t recall introducing Epstein to anyone, as I don’t know the guy well enough to do so, Epstein is obviously a creep and Zuckerberg is not a friend of mine," Musk said.

Musk did say that he and his ex-wife, Taluah Riley did go to Epstein's home in Manhattan previously for a short visit.

"She was curious about meeting this strange person for a novel she was writing," Musk told Vanity Fair. "We did not see anything inappropriate at all, apart from weird art. He tried repeatedly to get me to visit his island. I declined.”

A photo of Musk with Ghislaine Maxwell behind him at a Vanity Fair event circulating online led Musk to also clarify he did not know the longtime Epstein associate. Musk said she "photobombed" him at the event.
