Scoring was never an issue for Andrew Sniesak. But in order to take his game — and the Armada boys basketball team — to the next level, he had to become more versatile.

And once that happened, Sniesak established himself as one of the area's best players.

The senior was voted Blue Water Area Athlete of the Week on Thursday for the week of March 6-12. Sniesak led all scorers with 24 points in the Tigers' 60-55 win over St. Clair in a Division 2 district semifinal on March 8. He also surpassed 1,000 career points during the game.

The Times Herald recently caught up with Sniesak to learn more about him.

Times Herald: How long have you been playing basketball?

Andrew Sniesak: I started in the third grade. But I really got competitive with it in fifth grade when I started travel basketball. Then I fell in love with it and it all started from there.

TH: What makes you such a talented player?

Sniesak: I've had a lot of different coaches that've pushed me to improve my game. I've had great teammates that've helped push me to improve my game — especially my Armada teammates and coach. I couldn't have asked for a better past three years here. They just make me work harder every day and I think that attributes to how I play.

TH: Who is your favorite athlete and why?

Sniesak: Dennis Rodman. Because after watching a documentary on him and how he played, I think my game elevated from there. It made me want to work harder on defense, rebounds and steals. I think that was something that was missing from my game. And so, just watching him really inspired me.

TH: What do you enjoy doing outside of basketball?

Sniesak: I really like spending time with friends and family.

TH: What was your favorite memory from this season?

Sniesak: The St. Clair game in the district semifinal. Not only because I reached my 1,000th point, but because my team and I really stepped it up in that game. We fixed a lot of things that we were missing. It just felt good to get that win and play that game perfectly in my opinion.
