What you need to know about attending FAMU's homecoming parade

Are you planning on attending Saturday’s homecoming parade at Florida A&M University?

If so, plan on arriving early, being creative with parking and come packed with your best endurance – and comfort -  plan.

This could be a long one.

As of this week, more than 355 participating individuals, groups and organizations were registered including more than two dozen elected officials, several seeking your vote on Nov. 8.

Here is some helpful information on navigating the scene:

Time: 8 a.m. start

Parking: Parking lots behind Lee Hall, Foote-Hilyer, the Will Packer Performing Arts Amphitheater, along West Osceola Street, and on South Bronough, South Adams and other streets near campus.

Parade route: The parade begins in front of FAMU DRS on Wahnish Way. From there, it travels north on Wahnish to Robert & Trudie Perkins Way, then west to South Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard, right on South Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard, passing Lee Hall and ending in front of the Perry-Paige building.

Live coverage: Good Morning America anchors Ike Ejiochi and Kumasi Aaron will broadcast live starting at 6:30 a.m., in front of the Center for Access and Success on Wahnish Way.

What to avoid: The route will be closed to non-parade traffic from 6 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday.

Off-limits parking: After Friday, Oct.28, at midnight, cars without the proper gameday decal will be towed if your vehicle is parked at Bragg Memorial Stadium, The Parking Garage, The Welcome Center, Banneker A, B, & C, SBI East/West, Orr Drive, Eugenia Street, College of Pharmacy & Pharmaceutical Sciences, School of Architecture, Polkinghorne Village, Black Archives, Old DRS, CASS Building, MS Thomas Building, Sampson Hall, and Young Hall.
