Bel Air looks for repeat of 2019

The Highlanders won the 2019 state championship in Class 5A, defeating Pharr Valley View in the semifinals and Frisco Wakeland in the state title game. The Highlanders finished 28-1 in 2019.

Who is Frisco Lone Star?

Frisco Lone Star, which is 23-1-2 on the season, defeated Pflugerville Connally, 3-0, on Friday in the other state semifinal. Frisco Lone Star got goals from Tucker Eason, Bartek Zabek and Adam Azizi in its state semifinal victory. Lone Star is the Region II champion.

Keys for Bel Air to win state

  • The Highlanders have allowed two goals in the playoffs, so defense will be key against a Frisco Lone Star team that has scored 20 goals in the playoffs.

  • Offensive balance. The Highlanders have scored 22 goals in this year's playoffs and have had multiple players step up at key times. Three difference players scored goals in Thursday's semifinal win, including two goals by Ruben Esparza.
