Get to know your Cape H.S. Boys Track & Field All-Stars: Sprinters, jumpers and throwers
Undefeated seasons, personal records and state qualifications are just some of the favorite highlights from the 2022 Cape Cod High School Boys Track and Field All-Stars.
It was a year with a lot of success for many athletes across Cape Cod and the Islands. Check out who made this year's team.

CAPE & ISLANDS LEAGUE
Duante Ambersley, Dennis-Yarmouth Junior
Ambersley had a strong showing at the state meet for the Dolphins. The junior finished second in the 110m hurdles with a time of 16.02.
Damian Beeber, Nauset Sophomore
Beeber’s most memorable moment was when he made the finals in the 200m dash at the Division 4 championships.
“I typically run the 400m and the 4x100m relay and I qualified for both of those at divisionals. However, I only participated in the 200m at two league meets before divisionals and didn't plan to qualify. I excelled in that and the support from my coaches (Moira Nobili, Airami Bentz, Tom Brenneman, Laura Freeman) was incredibly helpful on putting me on my path," said Beeber
He is also with the U.S. Naval Sea Cadet Corps, did mission work in Africa and works outside of track and field.
Aidan Brown, Nauset Freshman
Brown, who also plays soccer, said his most memorable season was when “I ran my fastest time at divisionals for hurdles at 15.96 as a freshman.”
Zachary Carey, Dennis-Yarmouth Senior
Carey’s most memorable moment came during the divisional relay meet. Zach also plays football. He will be attending Assumption University where he will compete in track and field.
Paytah Dill, Nauset Sophomore
Dill’s most memorable was at states when he placed third with a personal record time, beating his previous PR by .73 seconds in the 400m hurdles and qualified for All-States. He also likes lifeguarding, biking and camping.
Oliver Fanfan, Dennis-Yarmouth Senior
Fanfan not only finished top 20 in the 800m with a time of 2:05.58, but was also a member of the Dolphins 4x400m relay team that finished in eighth place, recording a time of 3:42.12.
Henry Gartner, Falmouth Junior
Gartner finished with two top-three results at the state finals. He finished third overall in the finals for the Clippers in the one mile, registering a 4:24.74 time. He also competed in the two mile race, where he took second place with a 9:31.79
Patrick Jones, Barnstable Senior
Competing in the discus, Jones finished 16th at the state finals with a distance of over 121 feet.
Jackson Mahoney, Falmouth Junior
In addition to track, Mahoney also plays football.
JJ Martin, Barnstable Junior
Martin competed in the 100m and the 200m for the Red Hawks. He finished eighth in the 200m finals with a time of 22.76.
Walter Mayo, Dennis-Yarmouth Freshman
Mayo competed in the high jump for the Dolphins and had a PR of 6'0 in the MSTCA Division 5 Relays Meet. The freshman was undefeated in the league, but was unable to compete in the divisional meet due to a knee injury.
Jackson Merrill, Barnstable sophomore
In just his sophomore season, Merrill competed well at the state meet. One of just five total underclassmen in the boys two mile race, he finished 15th overall with a time of 10:02.40.
Patrick Morin, Sandwich Senior
Morin's favorite moment came in "The last league 100m race where JJ (Martin, of Barnstable High School) and I were neck and neck. I had pulled out on top but him and I both PRed and it was the closest race I have had in a long time." He will be attending Stonehill College, where he will be continuing to run track and studying criminology.
Jonathan Norton, Martha’s Vineyard Senior
Norton has had a couple favorite moments from his year, including, he said, "winning the Emerging Elite 4x800 at Nike Outdoor Nationals. During the league season it would have to be breaking the school record and winning the league championship in the 4x400m relay." He's also a member of the National Honor Society, a member of SWEAR (Stand With Everyone Against Rape), and is a homeroom facilitator. He will be studying math and education, along with running cross country and track at Connecticut College next year.
Michael Nossek, Sturgis Junior
Nossek ran the 100m in 11.67 seconds and the 200m in 24.06 seconds. He also competed in the discus.
Patrick O’Neil, Barnstable Senior
O'Neil was a league all-star in football as well as track and field. He'll be playing football at Brown in the fall.
Aiden Rhodes, Nauset Senior
Rhodes' most memorable moment was winning the javelin in the league meet. He also does karate and plans to travel after graduation.
Isaiah Robinson, Nauset Freshman
Robinson’s most memorable moment came from running the 110m hurdles with his friend and teammate Aidan Brown and getting first and second place during the All Cape Meet. “We pushed ourselves and ran our best helping each other run the fastest we had run all season," said Robinson. He is a three-sport athlete and plays football and basketball for the Warriors.
Ajani Simpson Dennis-Yarmouth Senior
Simpson finished seventh in the 100m in the state finals with a time of 11.60. He also competed in the long jump for the Dolphins.
Shane Stanghellini, Sturgis Sophomore
The sophomore competed in the one mile at the state finals. He finished top-15 with a time of 4:44.90.
Max Sullivan, Sandwich Senior
The senior finished sixth in the 200m finals for the Blue Knights. His time was 2:00.20.
Zach Utz, Martha’s Vineyard Senior
Utz's favorite moment this season was "winning the emerging elite 4x800m relay at nationals in Oregon." He also participates in student government and is a member of the National Honor Society. He will be attending Middlebury College in Vermont and hopes to major in environmental science
Milo Van Mooy, Falmouth Senior
"The most memorable moment of my season was was the Warrior Invitational in Foxborough," Van Mooy said. "Despite the event being delayed over two hours and the heats being shifted placing me in lane 8, I ran a new personal record in the 400 meter." He also plays electric bass in the jazz band at Falmouth, and plays ultimate frisbee. He will be attending UMass Amherst's Honors College in the fall where he will major in physics.
Gareth Vos, Monomoy Sophomore
Vos competed in eight different events: one mile, 200m, 400m, 800m, anchor of the 4x400m, high jump, long jump and triple jump. In the Cape & Islands League Meet, he won the 400m with a personal record of 53.2.
His favorite moment of the season was the 4x400m relay against Sturgis when "we started out with a lot of ground to make up after the first leg and second leg, but our third leg made up enough ground for me to start the final leg ahead of their leg. I remember going out as fast as I could and the thrill of coming out of the last 100 way ahead of them. And my team's reaction when I finished ahead of their anchor winning the 4x4." He also plays baseball, runs cross country and does weightlifting.
