'To know Drew was to love him': Funeral set for Prairie Central's Drew Fehr

Visitation and funeral services are set for Drew Bryan Fehr, one of two Prairie Central High School student-athletes who died in a sledding accident at Copper Mountain Ski Resort in Frisco, Colo.

Visitation services will be held from 1-7 p.m. Tuesday, March 28, at First Baptist Church of Fairbury, 701 N. Seventh St. Duffy-Pils Memorial Home is in charge of arrangements.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, March 29, at the church with Pastors J.D. Buchenau and Dan Robertson officiating. Burial will be in Graceland Cemetery in Fairbury.

Fehr, who would've been 18 next month, is survived by his parents, Brian and Susan Fehr of Fairbury, and a sister, Ashley. He was a three-sport athlete who participated in football, basketball and the pole vault in track and field.

Fehr was a starter for a Prairie Central basketball team that posted a 31-3 record and claimed the No. 1 spot in Class 2A polls. The Hawks were Illini Prairie Conference champions and captured a regional title.

He was a team captain at running back and linebacker for Prairie Central football and was an Illinois High School Football Coaches Association all-state selection in Class 3A. Fehr led Prairie Central in rushing with 1,439 yards and 21 touchdowns. He was also the leading tackler for the Hawks, who had an 11-1 record and made it to the Class 3A quarterfinals.

"To know Drew was to love him," his obituary said.

"Drew was a joy to be around. He had that crooked smile that could light up any room. He loved his people hard and was always willing to take a moment for others."

Fehr was also a successful student. He was on the honor roll and was among the top 10 in his class. He enjoyed time with his family and friends, especially his dog, Sally.

"He left a legacy behind and will forever be loved and remembered," his obituary stated.
