What you need to know about election deadlines; Worcester early voting starts Oct. 22

WORCESTER — The general election for state and federal office is a month way. Most eligible citizens can register to vote 10 days before Election Day.

An election reform law, the VOTES Act, which went into effect in June, has made permanent several pandemic-era changes to voting in Massachusetts.

The last day to register for the Nov. 8. general election is now Oct. 29. Residents have until 5 p.m. that day to register and be eligible to vote in November.

U.S. citizens who are 16 or older and are not incarcerated on a federal conviction can registerto vote. New U.S. citizens who are naturalized after Oct. 29 may register to vote in person at a local election office until 4 p.m. Nov. 7.

For Worcester County voters, the ballot will feature several competitive statewide races, two congressional incumbents facing challengers and a handful of competitive state legislative races.

Early voting dates is open 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. in the state from Oct. 22 to Nov. 4. Here are the following early voting locations in Worcester:

  • Worcester Senior Center, 128 Providence St., on Oct. 22, 23 and 24.

  • Living Word Church of Worcester, 30 Tyler Prentice Road, on Oct. 25, 26, 27.

  • Unitarian Universalist Church's Fellowship Hall, 90 Holden St., on Oct. 28, 29.

  • Stearns Tavern, 140 Mill St., on Oct. 30, 31 and Nov. 1.

  • Worcester Public Library's Saxe Room, 3 Salem Square, on Nov. 2, 3, 4.
