What to know about Elmira's new Pizza Hut: Opening date, menu and more
Pizza Hut, the iconic restaurant instantly recognizable with its checkered tablecloths, plastic tumblers, sit-down arcade games and deep-dish pies, is making a comeback in Elmira, albeit without the atmosphere the older generations remember.
News of the new Pizza Hut in the Tops Plaza on the Southside was reported earlier this year as part of an announcement from Yum! Brands that 10 new stores would open in “Western New York.”
While many of the traditional sit-down Pizza Huts have closed across the country, the restaurant still operates more than 16,000 locations, many of which offer only the express menu or take-out-only options.

When will Elmira Pizza Hut open?
Darci Smith, Senior Director of Marketing/Administration for franchisee Daland Corporation, said the take-out-only restaurant is scheduled to open Tuesday, Nov. 15 next door to Zoom Tan, barring any unforeseen circumstances.
When did the other Pizza Huts in the region close?
Seventeen Pizza Huts, including locations in Elmira, Corning, Bath and Hornell, closed permanently in 2020. The company initially closed following the restrictions imposed during the COVID-19 pandemic, but the local franchisee made the closures permanent.
At the time, a Pizza Hut spokesman said it had plans to open new franchises in the region.
Among the restaurants affected at the time were locations at 55 E. Pulteney St. in Corning, 1151 Broadway in Elmira, 357 W. Morris St. in Bath, and 1000 State Route 36 in Hornell.
What will the Elmira Pizza Hut offer?
Smith said the location will offer delivery and carry-out only but will feature an almost-complete menu. Besides pizza, patrons can order pasta, wings, breadsticks, cheese sticks, desserts, and beverages. It also features a drive-thru. The only staple unavailable will be sandwiches.
Are there other Pizza Hut locations in the Southern Tier or Northern Tier of Pennsylvania?
Before the return of Pizza Hut in Elmira, the closest full-menu location was in Mansfield, a drive of 30 minutes or more from parts of the Elmira area. A Pizza Hut Express inside Target at Big Flats Commons was the lone semblance of the chain in the area since 2020. However, the Express locations offer only select items, including cheese and pepperoni personal pan pizzas, small portions of breadsticks, pasta, and bone-in wings.

The Pizza Hut is at 299 South Main St., and customers can order online at pizzahut.com or via the Pizza Hut app.
