With the Giants in the midst of what John Mara has called a "comprehensive" search for their next general manager, one of the most highly thought of names on their list is Kansas City Chiefs assistant GM Ryan Poles, who is a finalist for the job.

Per SNY's Ralph Vacchiano, the 36-year-old Poles has been a rising star in the league for a while after learning from Scott Pioli, John Dorsey, and Andy Reid.

Here is what you need to know about Poles...

Poles' time with the Chiefs

Poles began his front office career in Kansas City when he was hired as a scouting assistant in 2009.

After about a year as a scouting assistant, Poles become the Chiefs' college scouting coordinator in 2010.

In 2016, Poles was promoted to Kansas City's director of college scouting, a role he held for roughly two years before being promoted to assistant director of player personnel in May of 2018.

Since June of 2021, Poles has been the Chiefs' executive director of player personnel.

Poles was a finalist for the Carolina Panthers' GM job after interviewing multiple times last offseason. That job ultimately went to Scott Fitterer.

In an interview in February of 2020, Poles said that lots of his "heavy lifting" with the Chiefs revolved around the draft.

"I oversee all of our scouts that live across the country, make sure the information is coming in," Poles told Buffalo Plus. "Do we know the player, their background, what they're about. Do they love football? Their intelligence.

"And then I'm able to get that information and hand it over to our general manager and our head coach, so that we make really good decisions and try to bring in the best players for our system as possible."

In addition to the Giants, Poles is drawing interest from the Minnesota Vikings, who recently requested to interview him for GM.

Before Kansas City

Prior to working in the Chiefs' front office, Poles briefly worked for Boston College as a football recruiting GA in 2008, after signing with the Chicago Bears as an undrafted free agent.

Poles' time working at BC followed his playing career there as an offensive lineman from 2003 to 2007.

During his senior year, Poles started the first six games -- on an offensive line protecting QB Matt Ryan -- before an Achilles injury ended his season.

A native of New York, Poles was the 2002 Gatorade New York State Player of the Year for Canandaigua Academy.
